Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies and the links to the  Cleland  Testimonial Building.

I have finally found "Thornhill" in Tasmania. It was the name of a property owed by an Andrew Downie, also from Scotland,
 "By 1824 Downie had acquired some land of his own, by grant. This farm he called Thornhill, and during 1825 he cleared part of it and sowed crops, as well as running a flock of sheep." http://eprints.utas.edu.au/10910/

+Did you know that Cleland is pronounced Cleeland and not Clelland. the name is softed from its Strathclyde Briton name Kneland.

Building at the Top of Buchanan Street Glasgow is Cleland Testament Building. Was built for James Cleland who Worked in Public Works to improve lives of Local People.

Sure this is same line of Cleland


DR James Cleland is meet to be related to Cleland of that Ilk.

Was wondering about your Black's in New Monkland.

As I have Black's in that area as well and might be related to my Mollinsburn Black's as well. Could not find your any of your reseach in RootsChat.

So can you tell me more about your Black's

I'll PM you. Basiccally my Blacks are the Rawyards family in New Monkland.
