1841 lookup request please: Jonathan Wilkinson 1841*new marriage details*
« on: Wednesday 15 April 09 16:44 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am trying to find a Jonathan Wilkinson (abt1834, (West) Rainton) somewhere on the census to find his potential parentage. and am hoping someone might be able to help.

I have a potential sighting on the 1851 census, which I quite like the look of as lodging with the family is a Margery Alderson from Barnard Castle.  The reasons being, census returns suggest his future wife hails from there and at the moment I am working on the belief that he marries an Alderson in 1852.

He is listed as the nephew of the head of household (Jonathan Wilkinson, 1813, Colliery Row, Durham) and his pob is given as Houghton-le-spring.  A possible sister Margaret (abt 1836, Houghton-le-Spring) is also there.  I am trying to find this Jonathan and/or Margaret in 1841 but haven't had any luck so far.  I would appreciate any help finding them so I have a bit more information to go on.

Thanks

Hi Jen, thanks for your response.

Its still a possible for my Jonathan, but don't think it can be the Jonathan I have found in 1851, as have found a likely family in Coxhoe then, which has a John, Mary, Jonathan and Jane, aged 39, 34,15 and 13 respectively.

I can't see any more candidates. Do you have the uncle, Jonathan 1813, and his family in 1841?

2 possible baptisms, 1st looks likely, 2nd is probably for the one Jen found in 1841:

Houghton-le-Spring  St. Michael & All Angels
29 Nov 1833 Jonathan Wilkinson, of Middle Rainton, born 9 Oct 1833, son of Matthew Wilkinson & Mary

Houghton-le-Spring  St. Michael & All Angels
10 Jan 1836 Jonathan Wilkinson, of Houghton, born 3 Nov 1835, son of John Wilkinson & Mary

Thanks for your responses:

Jen- I think I have found 'uncle' Jonathan along with his wife Esther and eldest son Matthew (1 month old), in Easington mistranscribed on ancestry as Wilkins (the name overruns the box on the transcript and they seem to have cut off the on).

Barbara, do you mind if I ask what your source is for baptism records?  If it is not too much trouble might you also be able to look for Margaret (abt 1836)?  I would be interested in knowing whether there is a matching entry, as the first one does sound promising.  I have found the baptism record using the information you have provided  on the LDS pilot site and the father Matthew is listed as a pitman.

I forgot to mention previously that my Jonathan was a miner.

There is a possible marriage for his uncle:

1840, Q3, Houghton Le Spring, 24/ 128

Esther Anderson to  Jonathan Wilkinson, assuming she is an Alderson there is an Esther Alderson born 1816.

That definitely looks more like Wilkinson than Wilkins, I agree.
