Reynolds
« on: Tuesday 14 April 09 12:44 BST (UK) »
I would be grateful for any help!
Charles Reynolds was born in Snaith, Hunmanby in 1807. He married Susannah Stephenson in 1831 and when a widower he married Jane. I know details of his children but I just cannot find any details about Charles' parents or his siblings and I have tried! :(

Hi Sandy,

If all else fails, the marriage certificate for Charles and Jane should tell you his father's name.

(Seeing a Charlotte Charlton from Hull visiting in 1851, maybe Jane's maiden name was Charlton? There's a Charles Reynolds to possibly Jane Charlton marriage, Dec 1845 Scarbro 24 630)

 :)

Thanks very much for your speedy response - I will look into that and possibly send for the marriage cert, although it always involves spending money, doesn't it? !
Regards

Yes, it's £7 unfortunately, and it will only give you his father's name, not his mother's  :(

I have spent ages looking for him.

I think purchasing cert. is way to go.

I'd put my money on his Father being Jonathon, born 1781 Snaith ;D There is a William Reynolds, born 1806 Snaith who could be a possible brother but I can see no way to prove it unless someone has Parish Records.

I'm keen to find Charles Reynolds too! He was my 2x gt grandfather. Was he from Balne, in Snaith parish? The 1851 & 1871 census suggests this, in conjunction with 1861 showing Snaith . He was  a grocer and draper, and can also be found in the 1834 Trade Directory (on line at Genuki) By the way, in the 1871 census he was living or staying in Newport, Shropshire, with his son in law Thomas Picken and daughter Elizabeth (my gt grandparents).

Does anyone know any more about a possible Sir Joshua Reynolds connection?
