I live in Caerphilly now but originally from Brithdir.  I know Bargoed pretty well but have never heard of the club, that's not to say it wasn't there, just that I'm not aware of it.  What kind of club!!  Well as it is supposed to be in the 50s I would imagine a working mans club!! other than that your guess is as good as mine.  I am also asking around so maybe between the two of us we can solve the mystery

i am almost sure the Top Hat club was a private Club situated  at the top of Town in the last row of  three/four shops left handside going down to  the old employment exchange Gilfach which is  now the new Clinic,

Hi Jaz
Yes you are correct, it was a private club and from what you are saying with regards to where it was situated,  I guess it no longer exists?????  A pity, I have a cartoon drawn by a local doctor, now deceased, of members of the Top Hat, thought it would be challenge to try and put names to the faces!!!!

The Top Hat club is still in existence and is situated at the location suggested. It is a business mens club. If you would like to contact members of the club send me your details and I wil put you in touch. Hope this will be of help.

Brilliant to hear the top hat club is still up and running. you woudn't know it as a club from the outside it just looks like a terraced house (if it remains unchanged and my memory is working)

My OH was a member when we lived in bargoed in 1970's The local doctors used to drink there -along with shopkeepers etc .
