Land records and Probate records
« on: Sunday 12 April 09 00:37 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

Would anyone be kind enough to let me know how to find out if my ancestors from Llanwnda, Pembrokeshire, wales had any land records or probate records. I dont know much about land records or probate records or how to search for them and was wondering if there is a way to find out if my family had them?

The family name i am reaserching in Llanwnda, Pembrokshire is "Miles".

Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

Regards,
Sandra

Hi Sandra

Land Tax Assessments are at Pembroke Record Office in Haverfordwest.

They also have Indexs of Wills.

Their prices for searches are very reasonable.I use them a lot.

They have a web site for information.

Most Will are at  The National Library of Wales.

Hope this helps

Dear Omega,

Thank you very much for your reply. I will request a search to be done. I had no idea that you could do that for a reasonable price. Thank you for your help.

Have a lovely day,
Sandra

Hi Omega,

Well that would be nice If you could have a look in the book for me. I have my direct family line which starts at my Miles Great Grandfather Benjamin Thomas Miles born in 1901 in Fishguard. Most of my family come from Llanwnda, Goodwick etc. Benjamins Parents are John Miles and Hannah Mary Williams. (john born 1854 in Llanwnda). Then John's Parents are Thomas Miles and Mary Ann Phillips. Thomas' parents are William Miles and Elizabeth James. So far thats all that I have proved. There is a possibilty that Williams Parents are William Miles and Mary James.

I would be interested to know if any of the names above appear in your book or if there are any families from Goodwick, Fishguard, Llanwnda etc etc.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Sandra

Hi Sandra

I could`nt  find any Miles for that time frame.

There are rather back & it seems they sometimes spelt their surname Myles.

Sorry.

Hi Sandra,

Do you know of the Miles family that lived in Clydau, Pembrokeshire - a Simon Miles born in late 1700s who had a wife called Mary.  I am trying to find out if he is my great great great grandfather.  Thank you,
Miriam

The will of John Miles of Clydey Pembs reference nbr 1815/023, George Miles of Little Newcastle Pembs reference nbr 1856/193 both proven at the E.C.C. of St David's are available free off the NLoW web site.
Post 1858 wills are available from the TNA website but will need to be paid for.
Land Tax Assessements cover the periods circa 1781 to circa 1833 for each hundred of pembrokeshire, in some cases not all parishes for every year are held. There is no listing on the net.
If you wish to get an idea of what land tax returns show visit ;

You may well recognise the author.
If it helps let me know what parish and year you are interested in and I can get  you details.
If you can not visit the Rec Off and would like me to assist just PM me with details.
