Help! 1841 needle in a haystack!

Hi. I have no idea if anyone can help me with this request as the information I have available is extremely limited. I have spent hours on ancestry searching the 1841 census without success and am close to admitting deafeat! Please help!

I am looking for two Thomas Jones on the 1841 census. They are a father and son but I don't know if they were living together in 1841.

The information I have for the first Thomas Jones:
- he was born about 1821
- in subsequent census returns his birthplace is listed as either Llanerfyl in Montgomeryshire, Llandderfel in Merionethshire, or Llangollen!
- he was a cooper
- he married Ann Sproston in 1845 in Liverpool Parish Church (but i cannot make out the residence listed on the marriage certificate)
- from the 1851 census on he is recorded as living in Chester, where he lived and worked as a cooper until his death in 1896. I believe that Thomas and Ann settled in Chester because this is where she was born and her family were living.

The second Thomas Jones is the aboves father. The only information I have for him is what is listed on the above Thomas Jones marriage certificate of 1845 and that is his profession was a joiner. I am only assuming he was alive at the time of the 1841 census beacuse he is not recorded as being deceased on the marriage certificate.

I know this is a really difficult request but can anyone help me with this? I would be really grateful.

I have ancestry sub, but I am in NSW Australia, so my knowledge of counties is somewhat limited!, but my ancestry sub allows me to search England & Wales Christening records for the period 1530- 1906, and I have had a quick look, there are not too many Thomas Jones born about 1820 and with a father named Thomas Jones.  Let me know if you do not have access to that set of records on your ancestry subscription, and if I can help by using mine I will.  Cheers, MA

Could you please tell us the names of the witnesses on the marriage certificate for Thomas and Ann (Sproston)?

Is it possible, please, for you to scan the address which is on the marriage certificate?

Many thanks for your reply. The witnesses on the marriage certificate are listed as Edward Sproston and Martha Sproston. From what I can make out Ann's residence is listed as Back or Black Castle Street, but I can't make out Thomas's address. I've scanned the certificate but I can't attach the image to this reply. I have clicked on the link 'Attach a photograph or image (and other options)' but nothing happens! I must be doing something wrong but I don't know what!

The address looks like "Kitchen Street" (Liverpool).

Though the addess in itself is not much help so far!!

The only clue that I can see at the moment (which might well turn out to be merely a coincidence and therefore a "red herring") is on the 1861 Census.

Thomas and Ann were living at 8 Albert Street, Chester and living next door (at 6 Albert Street) were John Jones (age 37, a Railway Pointsman, born Backford, Cheshire) and his wife Frances (also age 37, born Hope, Flintshire). John and Frances had a Boarder - Richard Jones, age 21, a Mail Guard, born Llanidloes(?), Montgomeryshire.

Perhaps Thomas and John (and/or Richard) were related?

Have you pursued this particular line of enquiry?
