Hey, Maxdog, welcome to Rootschat.
How fascinating!
If you Google John Rastrick you will find a lot about him.
Thanks for the offer, I'd love to see your house.
Liz.

A wee bit of TRIVIA on Newgate St, Morpeth.

Odd house numbers are riverside. Even numbers are on east side of street.

Today, 94 Newgate St houses the Register Office ( Now entitled "Northumberland Central" Registration District.)

I think these premises  once housed the Girls Grammar school. Am not sure cos I went to boys school up Cottingwood Lane, and never the twain were to meet !

12 Newgate St would have been some sort of commercial premises e.g. shop

 Trade Directories.
Piggot's, 1834 edition lists Thomas Purdy twice under Gardeners and Seedsmen, once at Bullers Green, once at Newgate St.

A little more trivia or update some may find useful. The register office has moved or is in the process of moving from this address to the Town Hall, in the centre of Morpeth. Downside is, seemingly you can't just walk in now (after the move) you have to phone for an appointment. Progress that.

Between 1859 and 1869, the building at 94 Newgate Street was the home of Joseph Crawhall and his family. It was then 100 Newgate Street. I found a painting by Crawhall of what he called 'Wansbeck House' (I don't know if this was its official name!) whilst searching through the Crawhall archives at Newcastle University library.
