Hi BatUser,
This is brilliant I have been trying to make contact with someone in Oz as I have so much wonderful information for you back to 1764 in Scotland, and I have always wondered what happen to the family in Australia as you know the cencus were destroyed. Iam a decendant of Mackenzie Alexander Forbes Peter William Downes Forbes younger brother, I can explain were the Downes and Minshaw came from, I have been working on the Family for the past eight years and trying to set a web page but it is very slow work. Please contact me on

Dear Swallowtail
I would love your wonderful information.
My mother was doing the family history with a friend and is now trying to get it together for my cousins as well as myself. It is all notes but in no order and not all written down and as she remembers so much it would be good if she did.
Some of what she told me is:-
Peter William Minshaw Forbs married Christina Cameron. She was deaf and dumb. She became a teacher for the deaf and dumb.
Peter William Minshaw Forbes was a gold & silversmith and worked for Hardy Brothers in Sydney
Peter William Minchaw Forbes
B 11 Oct  1850 Clerkenwell London England
Married 22 Dec 1877 in Sydney NSW Australia
D 21 May 1928 19 Herbert Street, Rockdale in Sydney NSW
Children
Peter Donald Forbes b 1879 Goulburn NSW
William Julian Forbes b 1880 Goulburn NSW d 1940
Amelia Christina Forbes b 21 Jan 1882 Goulburn NSW d 2 May 1946 Cessnock NSW
George Telford Forbes b 1884 Bathurst NSW
Samuel W Forbes b 1886 Bathurst NSW

I do not know what you would like from me but I am happy to share what I have.

Hi Swallowtail

Thank you for sending  2 attachments. Are the 2 attachments on this chat? I do not know where the 2 attachments are. I looked at help and I did not find anything on attachments. I thought we could not attach anything.

I will have another look but I am new to this so I am a bit slow on how it all works.

I will be away for a week leaving Friday Australian time so will have to try and work it out when I get back.

Any hints will be greatly appreciated.

Did you want anymore info from Me?

Regards
BatUser

The headstone of Peter William Downes Forbes

The headstone is a nice looking sandstone.
On the top is an insignia of The Masons
                        Masons In Insignia
63                                                                14.6.1879
         IN LOVING MEMORY
         MY DEAR HUSBAND
            P.W.D. FORBES
DUST TO ITS NARROW HOUSE BENEATH
SOUL TO ITS PLACE ON HIGH
THEY THAT HAVE SEEN THY LOOK OF DEATH
NO MORE MAY FEAR TO DIE

      AMELIA FORBES
66                                               20.10.1893
TO LIVE IN HEARTS WE LEAVE BEHIND
NOT TO DIE BUT GONE FOR A LONG SLEEP

         -oOo-

Vandals had pushed the headstone over. The caretaker said not to stand it up again because the next time they push it over they could break it. It was sad to see the damage the vandals had done to the graves and headstones. This is the oldest part of the cemetery close to the road & close to the Lidcome Hotel. After closing the larrikins go down & take pleasure in vandalising what they can.
