Richard Cheetham Photographer Dublin
« on: Friday 18 February 05 21:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi, can anyone help me with  this one??

I don't know if there is an Irish Census, but I have a AUGUSTUS
ALEXANDER CHEETHAM, born 11/9/1885 at 21 Hardwicke Street, in Dublin.

His parents were RICHARD CHEETHAM and CAROLINE EMILY CHEETHAM nee CROUCH.......Richard was a photographer....

I can't find this family on the British census for 1891..so I wondered if they were still residing in Dublin.

We think Richard was British, but perhaps Caroline was from Dublins
fair city....Not much to go on I know....but there are some clever people out there!!!

Kind Regards
JeannieR

hi Chris and Ron........

First of all apologies , for not replying to July's post .....very remiss of me , but to be honest , I have not done too much research recently, following a eye op....I am just getting back into the swing of it, so to speak......

I am not sure about the R A Richards , Woburn Sands , but I feel certain that the Levie & Cheetham , Liverpool is my husbands great grandfather.........I eventually found him , on the 1901 .....his name was down as Cheetham Richards !!

Richard Cheetham was a Court Photographer , and had photographed most of the crowned heads of Europe , but he liked a bit of the hard stuff !!  The family story goes that he was banished from court because of this ........

My grandfather in law , Augustus Alexander Richards , was a well known photographer in Halifax and Ludlow , as was my father in law , Leslie Alexander Richards . The family name was changed from Cheetham to Richards about 1910.......

I am just wondering if R A Cheetham , Woburn Sands , is Richard Alexander ?

Now I am back on track,  I will really study the victorian IMAGEcollection

Thank you both once again.

Jeannie

R A in Woburn Sands was a Robert Cheetham.  He had moved to Devon by 1933.

Good Luck.

Hello Jeannie,

I do believe that your husband and I are related and I also think I have met Uncle Leslie...  My gran was a Cheetham (Richards) daughter of Richard Cheetham.   And it is correct that he was a photographer.  I have a photo in my possession from Don Levie & Cheetham in Bold Street Liverpool.  I also have a lot of photos taken at her 50th wedding anniversary.   On this occasion there were a lot of her brothers present.   I would love to hear from you.  I think I actually met Uncle Leslie.   Strange.

Hoping to hear from you very soon.

Dottyc again,

I also visited someone living in Ludlow when i was a little girl.   I think we called her Auntie Minnie.  Does this mean anything to you?

Regards, dotty c.

Hello Dotty......

How wonderful to hear from you !!

The photograph on my profile, is your great grandmother Caroline....

I am now in touch with a lot of family members, including the last remaining grandchild of Richard and Caroline. Doreen is now 87.

If I am correct , are you a descendent of Eveline Maud (Auntie Cissie ) and John Edwin Winterson ?

Children were  Richard Chastel Winterson 1908-1988 / George Edwin Winterson 1904-1967 / Dorothy Maud Winterson 1910.....

Jim , my husband , was brought up in Ludlow, His parents were Leslie , also a photographer, and Marjorie, Known as Midge in the family , because she was only 4'10" when she stood at her tallest !!
Jim is now 76....

I must go and tell him you have contacted me...he will be lost for words , and that is VERY unusual.

Look forward to hearing from you.

I will send you my email address, but I can't do that , until you have made three posts .
