Hello Shimoo.

How Exciting !

I have sent you a personal message.

Dotty...

We are both well, thank you. Have just returned from our sojourn in Scotland.

Yes , Richard and Caroline were both English. Richard was born in Cheshire and Great Grandmother in Berkshire....From what I know, the whole family were snobs ! But they did mix with Royalty, and High born people..great Grand Pa was photographer to the Royalty of Europe...did I send you his letter head ?

He was also a drinker, and the story go's, that he was banned from court, and that is why the family went to Ireland.....

Much love

Jean

Thank you so much for that.....

As you can see, I have come a very long way in my research since 2005 !

Augustus Alexander Cheetham, was my husbands Grand Father.

Jim thought he had no family, as he was the only child, of only children. How wrong was he.
Since I started my research, Our family has grown considerably. They are all over the world.

New members of Rootschat require three posts before they have full access to the PM system - so shimoo may need to post again

Hi, can anyone help me with  this one??

I don't know if there is an Irish Census, but I have a AUGUSTUS
ALEXANDER CHEETHAM, born 11/9/1885 at 21 Hardwicke Street, in Dublin.

His parents were RICHARD CHEETHAM and CAROLINE EMILY CHEETHAM nee CROUCH.......Richard was a photographer....

I can't find this family on the British census for 1891..so I wondered if they were still residing in Dublin.

We think Richard was British, but perhaps Caroline was from Dublins
fair city....Not much to go on I know....but there are some clever people out there!!!

Kind Regards
JeannieR

Jeannie

Whilst checking for Roland/Ronald I've found details of the change of name by Deed poll in 1934 for several of the family.

Augutus Alexander RICHARDS formerly Cheetham changed his name to Richards on 19/4/193 and gives a Halifax address. He was a photographer.

Also listed on the same page was Leslie Alexander RICHARDS formerly Cheetham, same date but different address, also a photographer. This I presume is the Uncle Leslie you refer to and is Horace's brother.

On another file 3 Richards name changes are listed:

Oswald Victor RICHARDS formerly Cheetham
Horace Victor RICHARDS formerly Cheetham
Sydney Theodore RICHARDS formerly Cheetham

All give the same Wakefield address. The date change is later than the other 2, 10 Oct 1934. Oswald is listed as an analyst, but both Horace and Sydney are listed as photographers. Can supply the actual files if you like

Also have been emailed independently by someone else who seems to be a relative. You don't seem to have mentioned his name yet, so I can introduce you if you like. He is away for a couple of weeks, but I can email you/him when he gets back

good morning Jeanie,

Does this mean you have found  yet another branch of the family still living in Ireland?  And how did you get on with your research down near Canterbury.  And does this mean that Nicola is also a relative?   More questions I'm afraid.  My head is  still filled with  all this fascinating family.  And I still question my Gran who never mentioned it all.

No Dotty I'm not a relative, well perhaps in spirit maybe. Sgt Ronald Richards (formerly Cheetham I think) was the rear gunner on my uncle's plane and was shot down on a raid over Hamburg in 1942 with all crew MIA/KIA. I've been researching what happened to the plane and tracing the families of all the crew involved. I had found all the crew but Sgt Richards, who was proving very elusive. That was until earlier this week when similtaneously I had an email from someone who I believe is also related to you all and also I found Jeannie's post about Roland here on Rootschat.

Finally I had some details on which to go on and now I think I've finally managed to trace his family and its proving to be a very large family :-)

If you would like to see my research about what happened to Sgt Richards (Roland or Ronald - think he lied about some details) I have a link on a war forum called ww2talk.com http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/war-air/26721-james-e-linehan-mia-1942-wellington-x3757.html

Any by the way I do have Irish roots, but was born In England and live in London :-)
