Fletcher Family

Trying t o trace anyone who can help with finding the relatives as far as you can of a George Fletcher born 1837 in North Yorkshire, England who moved to Coultervale Manitoba Canada with his wife (Isabella Dobson Hodgson born 1836 in North Yorkshire England). Their sons and daughters were William James, Hannah, George, Annie Elizabeth, Thomas, Matthew Dotchon, Jane Hicks, all Fletchers, all born in England. I do hope someone can point me in the right direction. Many thanks for your help in this matter.

Regards
Mike Fletcher

On the 1881 Canada census, George, Isabella and family are in Essa, Simcoe County, Ontario. Here's a link to the image from Library and Archives Canada (entry starts on line 12 of the bottom page - there are two pages per image):
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/e/e328/e008185113.jpg

On the 1891 Canada census, George, Isabella and the two youngest children are listed in Arthur, Selkirk District, Manitoba. Son George and family are listed immediately after and continue on the next page. Son Thomas is listed after George (the son). Here's a link to the images at LAC (entry starts on line 19 of the bottom page):

The database for the 1891 census at LAC is searchable by name so you can try to find the rest of the family by searching at this link:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0610/

Here is a link to a site where you can search the 1901 and 1911 Canada census and the 1906 census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta for free:
http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html
(Note: I was just at the site and there seems to be a problem with their databases but I doubt the site will be down for long). *Edited to add: The databases appear to be working again.

If you have access to the Canadian databases at Ancestry, the 1891, 1901 and 1911 Canada census as well as the 1906 and 1916 census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta can be searched by name there (images for all census are available).

Here is a link to the Manitoba Vital Statistics genealogy database:
http://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php
I took a quick look and found deaths for George and Isabella Fletcher in Arthur listed. I also saw their son George's death listed as well.

I saw possible marriages in Arthur as follows:

Thomas Fletcher to Florence Jane Storey on 10 Jun 1898 (registration no. 1898,001265)
Mathew Dotchon Fletcher to Mary Matilda Atcheson on 3 Nov 1897 (registration no. 1897,001356)
Jane Hicks Fletcher to Thomas James Bonner on 21 Dec 1898 (registration no. 1898,001265)

If you wish to purchase any of the certificates in the database, the cost is $12 Canadian per registration. There is a form available at the website for ordering.

It looks like some of George and Isabella's children married in Ontario. I found the following entries in the Ontario marriage database at Ancestry:

William James Fletcher, 23, born England, son of George and Isabella Fletcher married Fanny Edith Ferrier, 18, born Essa, Ontario, daughter of William and Margaret Ferrier on 15 Oct 1884 in Essa, Simcoe County, Ontario.

Annie Elizabeth Fletcher, 20, born England, daughter of George Fletcher and Isabella Hodgin married James Hunt, 28, sawmill worker, born Yorkshire, England, son of John Hunt and Catharine Nicholson on 16 Sep 1885 in Barrie, Simcoe County, Ontario.

Based on son George's eldest child being born in Ontario, it would appear likely that he married Jane there although I couldn't find a registration. I did check the birth entries in the Manitoba Vital Statistics database for George and Jane's children (Isabella, William James and Ivy/Mabel). The database lists the names of the mother but not the father (you would have to order the certificate to confirm that information). Based on the entries I saw George was married to Jane Ann Tait.

I also couldn't find a marriage registration for Hannah but I believe she married Matthew Hunt. I found a birth in Simcoe County for a Francis Hunt to Matthew Hunt and Hannah Fletcher. I also found some Hunt births in Arthur, Manitoba where the mother is listed as Hannah Fletcher.

I found a passenger list entry that has a George Fletcher, 43, and a William Fletcher, 19, aboard the Ontario which arrived in Quebec on 18 May 1880. Here's a link to the image at Library and Archives Canada:
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/e/e142/e003539528.jpg
The rest of the family arrived in Quebec aboard the Dominion on 12 Jul 1880. Here's a link to that passenger list at LAC:

It appears that William James Fletcher may have died shortly after he married. I found a family tree posted for the Ferrier family and it indicates that William died in 1884 (no source listed) and Fanny remarried to Alfred Handy. I did find this marriage in the Ontario marriage database:

Fannie Fletcher (Ferrier is written above Fletcher on the entry), 18, widow, born Essa, daughter of William and Margaret Ferrier married Alfred Handy, 21, born Mulmur, son of J and N Handy on 10 Mar 1886 in Thornton, Simcoe County, Ontario.

I couldn't find a death registration for William.

Mike Fletcher:

I'm sure I can help you with a lot of information about descendants of George Fletcher born in 1837 who moved to Coutlervale, Manitoba Canada. He is my great grandfather and I have traced 9 generations of descendants, 759 in total.

Because there are living family members I will not provide information over a public forum.

If you wish to go further with exchanging information please let me know where I can email you or send mail to you by the post.

Earle.
