Help finding William Gibson Heath please - Completed
« on: Tuesday 07 April 09 11:20 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am hoping that someone can help me to find information about an ancestor - William Gibson Heath born 1807 or 1809 in Coleorton.  His Mother was Elizabeth Heath and when I stumbled upon his baptism details on another site, it said that his father's name was not listed.  A genealogist got as far back as William on this line of my family tree, but could get no further.  She suggested that William's father could have been a William Gibson?

I know that William married Mary King (born in Diseworth in about 1815) in 1840 and that in the 1851 Census they were living in Loughborough Road, Whitwick and that by 1860 they were living in Thringstone, but that is about all I know.

I am hoping that someone may be able to help me get back even further.  I don't have 1840 Census information regarding William Gibson Heath (Or Mary King), so if anyone can find him on there or help in any other way, it would be much appreciated.

If you know what his occupation was in later censuses you may be able to confirm if this is him in the 1841, although it does look like.
Both born in County
Whitwick, Leicestershire
William Ayre 30 Shoe M.
/
William Heath 30 Shoe M.
Mary Heath 25
/
Maria 15
Joseph 8
//
Robert Henson 70 Farmer
Sarah 65
//
William King 50 Ag Lab
Sarah 52
William 23 Ag Lab
Thomas 12
HO107; Piece 596; Book: 20; Civil Parish: Whitwick; County: Leicestershire; Enumeration District: 9; Folio: 14
The next building is the Chapel
I wonder if the older Kings are related to your Mary.

Unfortunately you may never know for certain who his father was, although having been given the middle name of Gibson, it could well be likely that he was named after his father.

Some of the Parish Records might be worth checking and at the National Archives to see if there might be any Bastardy Records which name the father.

Thank you Greyfox and Mary,

I'm sure you have found the right person.  William was indeed a shoemaker.  William and Sarah King must be one set of my Great great great great Grandparents - wow!

Interesting to see that in the 1851 Census, Maria and Joseph King are not living with William and Mary in Whitwick.

Can either of you find Elizabeth Heath, William's Mother?

Sorry, you said Maria and Joseph were siblings - I just realised.

It does seem that William and Sarah are Mary's parents...I know it is always wrong to assume, but it does seem likely.

Thank you

Hi, Ian,

Have just looked on www.familyseach.org. Think Mary's baptism is on there

Mary King, born 21 AUG 1814   bap 17 FEB 1815   Diseworth, Leicester,

Parents William King and Mary (which seems to strengthen the hypothesis!)

You may be able to find their marriage if you're lucky!

Correction! May strengthen hypothesis that the William King was Mary's father, but not that the Sarah was her mother! (Couldn't get back to earlier messages when replying - am new to Rootsweb - and got interrupted part-way.)

There is only one Elizabeth Heath of an appropriate age to be William's mother and she is living in Duke Street, St Mary, Leicestershire, age 60 and she's the Schoolmistress.

I would doubt that this is the person you should be looking for.

It's very possible that your Elizabeth may have married later and I believe this is what you should be looking for.

As stated above, check the Parish Records to see if the father was made to pay maintenance for the child.  See if there are any school records for William.  Make enquiries at the local Record Office to see what other documentation might exist for the area at that time.
