East Boldon burial in 1900 - CRUDDACE
« on: Monday 06 April 09 01:20 BST (UK) »
Hello All,

My grandad's brother died at the age of 24 and the death notice says that he was to be interred at East Boldon on 22nd August 1900. His name was Robert William Cruddace and I would like to know if this would be a church graveyard or a cemetery.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Colin

Hi Colin

I think it would be the cemetery on Dipe Lane which is in west boldon but covered east boldon burials.
You can see it on google earth. Post code is NE36 0PW.

Hello again Gary,

Thanks for those details. It makes the notice very misleading though.

Regards,
Colin

This will be Boldon Cemetery. I am from West Boldon, and my parents are buried in that cemetery. If I can find the grave, I will take a photo of it for you.

That's a very kind offer Martin. Thank you.
I will have to dig out the burial record which I got from the local library, and get back to you. I very much doubt that there will be a headstone though.

Regards,
Colin

Colin, No problem, I do have a contact in Bereavement services at South Tyneside Council, she would be able to tell me if there is a headstone or not.

Hi again Martin,

After blowing the cobwebs off my rickety old laptop I managed to find the details  ::)

The burial record lists him as Robert William Cruddas, age 24. buried in Ground B, Section 3, Number 964 on 22.8.1900.

Any help would be most appreciated, especially if your contact is able to say if anyone else is buried in that plot.

Colin

Added: I will send you my email address through a PM (Personal Message), and also "Welcome to Rootschat" I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Hi Colin,
I have some spreadsheets of the graves in Boldon Cemetery, I will sort them out. This will tell me if there is a headstone or not. I have done a lot of family history on my Mothers side, but still not finished.I have also started on my Fathers side, but its proving difficult.
