Parody Needies site

 Many may have seen the site which was only online for 2 days and resulted in many remarks by the Romany family history community but this one from a respected Rom I think sums it up rather well.

""The Needy Genes parody, in my opinion a spectacular own goal. I don't think the authors realized that it became an attack on gypsy culture and not a harmless parody of their perceived rivals.""

we would on the gmb board,the romanyconnections board,the christian romanichals boards,and romanyroad site like to make it known we think the neediegenes site was in very poor taste and very anti gypsy.we had and will have nothing to do with it.

I think most would not condone it,however seems only certain sites picked out. Is Romanyroad now one of your sites Cathay .

no  romanyroads is not one of my sites in that i dont have anything to do with the running of it but mary and i are good friends and help each other and mary hopes to get rr going again as soon as she is quite well again as she has been ill for over a year.but i had her permission to mention her site as she thought neediegens was terrible as i think we all did.

we did trace some of the contributers to the needie genes site back to a library in peterborough by their email addresses.it would seem they were a anti gypsy group that had spent quite sometime reading the bbc chat board and passing through and romanygenes site etc.,.i think all genuine gypsy sites were upset by the contents that appeared on there.

I have no idea waht this suposed site was, have been busy in real life dealing with other stuff that does cross our paths and never saw it. I DO know this, from whats been written here, no way would Cathay, Sue, Mary, Jackie or anyone else who deals with real romany gypsy genealogy have anything to do with it, and that includes the likes of the RFHS, Sharon (Citzen Smith on here), Keith who writes *currently about gypsy musicians and many others. If any of the above have been wrongly attributed to anything like this, I can assure you I do not believe it genuine.

Thank you Ann I apreciate your kind comments ,I think its a bit too complicated to discuss on here as i would not want to bring this Issue on here its a great forum and should be kept as just Genealogy but I thank you , however it was mainly tageted at myself (no suprise to me anymore) but I am making my own enquiries as all is not as it appears and to my knowledge its not a Anti gypsy group unless Cathy has more information ? as I just got the link to the site and no email address ?

I should have said myself and  afew others ,but funnily enough it was my avitar on here that they used as their emblem  but with a donkey on LOL.

By the way Cathay did the Library or whoever was contacted say what ,if any action will be taken ?

Does that mean that in a way our own success has spawned these folk ? maybe they are jelous of the many well produced Romany websites and the success of them ? I think that family history has become so popular not just with Romanies but the general public that ,I guess some who arnt interested find it hard to understand how we are so dedicated or maybe the right word is !! obsessed with finding that missing link or the ever elusive missing ancestor !!
