Edward TREASURE

I note that in the 1841 census that Levi is noted as an Agricultural labourer, and curiously the records show Edward aged 7 living in Giddy Lane (?) with Maria Treasure aged 40 (‘knitter’), James Treasure 10, and Eliza Treasure 8. John Brown aged 25 was the only other resident in the home, Ipresume he was 'head’ of the household, aged 25. Levi 65 and Elizabeth 50 lived a couple of residences away at Philpers Hill (?) with Isaac Treasure aged 4 and Jacob Treasure 1. Anyone who can suggest why this arrangement could be happening?

Ian, you did better than me!  For some reason I can't access the IGI via FamilySearch at the moment and the parish does not appear amongst the batches on the Hugh Wallis website.

Merilyn, failing all else, an appeal to Somerset Record Office for details of the conviction might prove fruitful, having regard to the reason for your research.

Lots of siblings on the IGI starting about 1806.

Levi and Elizabeth were still around in 1861, he being 89.

Might be him baptised at Stoke Lane 8 Oct 1771, son of James TRESURE. Name is transcribed as Leuey/Luey/Lewis, so must have been a bit unreadable.

At a guess, I would say that Maria was likely to be a widow [of the James whose death was recorded 1Q 1841 Shepton Mallet 10 306?] and that Levi/Elizabeth were grandparents with a couple of children [overnight?].  But, of course, parentage needs checking via IGI as there are a couple of other male TREASURE deaths:  Joel 1838 and Isaac 1839 [FreeBMD].

There is a marriage 4Q 1843 John BROWN/Maria TREASURE Shepton Mallet 10 664.

Update:
Husband guess was wrong but intuition was partially on track as Maria MOON married William TREASURE 1823;  William TREASURE aged 37 was buried 1833.

Most of them are at Stoke Lane, although Betty's family were from Downhead

Levi and Betty are in Stoke Lane in 1841, 1851 and 1861. In 1841 she is Elizabeth and in 1851 and 1861 she is Betty.

I am doing heaps of research on Martinup it is near my parent's home. Absolutley anything you can help me with would be appreciated. the old place is falling down and I want to try to get people interested in the story and therefore as keen to save it as I am!!!

Hello there,

I have some members of the Treasure family in my tree and have an interest in this line.

The registers for Stoke Lane (now Stoke St Michael) are on Freereg and contain very many entries for the Treasure family.

I visited the church at Stoke St Michael in 2008 and remember the graveyard was full of graves for members of the Treasure family. I made a note of some of these and can provide them if it helps. I think that Levi is buried there.

There is a very good local history book on Stoke St Michael and this gives considerable information on the area and families who lived there. I think it can be obtained from Frome Museum.
