1871 Census look-up please
« on: Thursday 02 April 09 15:25 BST (UK) »
I have Samuel Williamson b. 1836 Bowden, Cheshire ,  England, on the 1861 and 1881 England census.
I can't find him in 1871.
I know he was a policeman and it is thought that he served in Wales for a time
Would appreciate a look up please of the Welsh census for 1871.

Hi BigJon,

I have an 1871 census listing for a Samuel Williamson, Police Officer, born in Hale Cheshire (within spitting distance of Bowdon), residing at Monks Coppenhall, Crewe. He seems to fit the bill for your man apart from age; he is listed as being 33, rather than 35. He has a wife Elizabeth (39) and 2 young sons.

I'll post full details if you need them.

Regards,
Lee.

Yes please Lee
Looks like that must be him - perhaps Crewe was the nearest he came to Wales.

Hi BigJon,

I'm glad that the jig-saw is piecing together. I don't how you go about getting any historical information from Cheshire Police, but it might be worth your while to drop them an e-mail at:

PublicContact@cheshire.pnn.police.uk

Or perhaps a begging letter to:

Cheshire Constabulary Headquarters
Clemonds Hey
Oakmere Road
Winsford
CW7 2UA

You never know - you might get some help.

Regards,
Lee.
