PS Did he Immigrate with anyone?  Do you have the listing?

I found a possible for mine in Victoria in 1849.  More later in another post!  So it's not too early there.

Thinking about it, if William the father was this William's father, he got married quite late, which fits with William not born until 1850's.

Hi Could he have had a sister called Harriett?  Could it have been Victoria?

http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search_results.asp

There's a Mre Wilson arriving on the ship Sity of Palaces with a William 3 and Harriett 2.  This was Sept 1857.

Sometimes men went ahead to establish a trade, or his father could have died and they went to join family.

Thee are other indexes.

There was a demand for leather workers.

My family were shoemakers.  I lloked on mNLA Newspapers yesterday and there were a number of results for them.  ASnother branch were saddlers and arrived later.

Good hunting.

PS This was the unassisted passenger list.  There were assisted passenger lists too.  Having a trade, James might have been assisted.  I don't know enough about it.
