Isaac Cass - Hull

I wonder if this is the same gentleman?
I am a Ripperologist and local historian based in Kingston Upon Hull and recently obtained newspaper articles from 1888 that covered the Whitechapel Crimes and Jack the Ripper.  This was one such article that was attached to the Ripper related news.

It's from The Hull Daily News, Monday, September 17th 1888.

Think this must be when he started on the slippery slope:

The Hull Packet and East Riding Times (Hull, England), Friday, November 23, 1866

NEGLECTING A FAMILY –Isaac Cass was brought up on remand charged by the Hull Workhouse authorities neglecting to support his three children.  It being shown that he had willfully neglected them, he was sent to prison for 21 Days.

He was also committed to gaol for 12 months in 1871!

I will go through my newspaper collection this evening, as I am sure I have another report on Isaac Cass from either 1868 or 1869.  I believe the report is about Isaac leaving his horse and cart on Bowlalley Lane, and causing a road block.

Quite amusing when you think it was a horse and the authorities could have towed it away!

Goodness me!!  The chaps horse and cart that he took was his father-in-law (George Ruben Mumby was Eliza's dad!)  Talk about keeping it in the family!  Eliza died in 1865, all of the children are in the workhouse in the 1871 census - I assumed that Isaac went off the rails when he was widowed and did something naughty to support the family.  Not sure about willful neglect - that is a real shame!!  Thank you ever so much for your research, it is wonderful to finally get some answers!  I am so grateful, Sarah.

LOL about the traffic jam - it is a good job that he didn't do it in Hull at the minute.  The clampers would have clamped the cart and the horse within minutes!!  Sarah

Hi ashbee, Sarah, I have just seen your posts re Isaac Cass and family of Hull, and was wondering if you have any info about his wife's (Eliza Mumby) family. I have ancestors George Mumby m Mary Bolton who had a son named George Ruby Mumby b c1818 in Boston, Lincoln, England. cheers

Hi Lance, am fairly new at this so haven't really got that much info, only what the kind people have put on here really.  George Reuben Mumby m Mary Ann Stanton - children Eliza, Martha, John George, Francis, Elizabeth, James William and Selina.  George Reuben Mumby was a cart man in Hull. 
Just found another link to Mumby on Roots web - it's on the Lincolnshire section and has a lot of info about the mumby family.  Sorry I am not much help, Sarah

Just been directed to this thread by Lance.  George Reuben Mumby was my g.g.grandfather. 

As well as the newspaper report attached by mikecovell, I have another 5 reports of Isaac Cass's criminal activities.  I'm sure there must have been many more because in 1871 he was accused of a crime under the Habitual Criminals Act.
