Someone has just pointed out that on the 1861 census, Olive and her brother John, were deaf and dumb from birth!  Look's like Olive's "affliction" could have been more physical after all...

what a poor family!

and Scrimnet...just doscovered that another brother, Luke, was indeed in the Army ;)

An theres me thinking that a deaf and dumb woman would be snapped up as a wife.....

I would....

Can't think of a more harmonious household...Peace reigneth... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

Don't forget that being deaf and dumb in the mid 1800s was seen as a sign of imbecility....They were lucky to be at home...

You are terrible!  The same could be said for vice versa I suppose!   :P ::)

really?  I never knew that...seems strange then that the parents would have even said that to the enumerator...and even more amazing then, that Olive, deaf and dumb, was employed as a field worker!
