Inquest Report in Newspaper 1889
« on: Monday 30 March 09 09:54 BST (UK) »
My GGG Grandfather, Edward Jones, died on 4 December 1889 at Brampton Bierlow, Yorkshire aged 50 years. His cause of death is recorded on his death certificate as "From acute bronchitis aggravated by accidental fall in canal at Wombwell". It also states that an inquest was held on 6 December 1889.

Would someone know which newspaper a report on the inquest is likely to be in and where copies of that newspaper are held.  If I had those details I would then be able to send off a request for a copy of the article.

Thanks

Hi there
If the fall in the canal was in Wombwell, which is near Barnsley, there possibly could be a report in the Barnsley Chronicle of the inquest.
Copies of this are held at Barnsley Archives which is at Barnsley Library, Shambles Street,  Barnsley
South Yorkshire.
Hope this helps
Deno.

Thanks for the info, Deno.

I'll email Barnsley Archives and see if they will do a search for me.  It will be interesting to find out what the circumstances were when Edward fell into the canal.
