Marriage of Miss Margaret Stone: Quiet ceremony at St. Mary's Church this morning.:
The marriage of Miss Margaret Frances Stone, daughter of Mr. John Stone of Holstein House, South Yarra, Melbourne, Australia, and Mr. Ernest William Whitehead, second son of Mr. E. Whitehead, Whitehall, London was celebrated very quietly at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Grimsby this Monday morning at 1030. The Very Revd. Cantab O'Donoghue afficiated.
The bride was given away by the Borough Member (Sir George Doughty) and was attended by one bridesmaid Miss Mildred Ward -Gillespie. Mr. Wilfred Vere Doughty acted as best man. After the ceremony Miss Teague, the organist at St. Mary's played Mendelssohn's "Wedding March".
Also present were Lady Doughty, (sister Eugenia Stone) Mrs. Petter (mother of the bridegroom), Mrs. Rowland Charlton, Misses Ethel and Gladys Moss. After the ceremony all returned to Waltham Hall where dejeuner was served. At 1230, Mr. and Mrs. E. Whitehead left for London where they will take up residence at King's Gardens, Hampstead, London. A great number of presents were received from relatives and friends in Australia, India, Africa and Canada as well as several gifts from Grimsby friends.
A quiet wedding my foot! More of a Grimsby society wedding not lunch but "dejeuner" not your normal Aussie barbie, but it was an English February!
