MIs for Ormskirk Parish church(name: Ashton)
« on: Monday 30 March 09 07:39 BST (UK) »
after looking for this family for the last 10 years I have at last managed to get what I think is the right family - even visited Ormskirk parish church graveyard on Saturday to see if I could find a likely headstone - but of course in a short visit (and finding that many were now included in the pathways) - I gave up, too little time and an impatient husband!

I see there are Ormskirk Parish church MIs on CD - at £10, but was wondering if someone had a copy already and could let me know if its worth getting - ie, are there any Ashtons on it?

thank you very much for the offer - I am hoping there is something there for John Ashton, buried 8 Aug 1867 aged 73....hopefully with a wife Margaret (think she died in early 1861).

The burials are in St Peter & St Pauls Church registers, Ormskirk (the parish church)....There were 3 separate John & Margarets there during the same period, John being a sawyer during his working life...

Don't worry if you  don't have time  to look after you have done your own searches - I know how the time flies once you start looking.

I'm afraid the CD's DVD's are covered by copyright. but you should be able to get the information from Lancashire  (Preston )Records Office

Yes, I do realise they are copyrighted ,which is why I didn't ask for a lookup. But if someone had.replied saying there were none at least it would save me £10....... so many times in the past I have purchased fiche or cds only to find that my ancestors were too poor to have headstones.

thankyou for checking for me - strangely enough I did see an Elizabeth on one of the many headstones being used as a footpath slab.

Lancs OPC has a burial record for Margaret Ashton age 65 on 3/1/1861 at St Peter & St Pauls Ormskirk

Lots of Ashtons in the BMD records

thanks, it was seeing those that inspired me to start searching again - and the reason I was hoping for an MI which might have put some of those names into families/groups.......I am now pretty certain that John who died in 1867 is our ancestor, and that Margaret seems a likely one because he was widowed by the 1861 census, which just fits in with that burial date.
