Parish Records - Samuel Gainey
« on: Sunday 29 March 09 21:54 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for parish records as follows for Samuel Gainey:

marriage to Susan Williams (possibly around 1835-37 St Woolas ??)
birth/christening (all I know is birth place stated on 1851 census is listed as Newport)

Many thanks,
Tracey

Spouse's name according to birth record of daughter is Susan WILLIAMS,
so I don't think these are right.

I have obtained a birth certificate for one of Samuel's daughters 1841 which confirms mother's name was Susan Williams.

I have no further details of Susan Williams, or where she was born, so it may be possible that her parish was not within Newport, so it could be a long shot that I actually find this marriage.

If he was married before 1837 a marriage certificate would not be available anyway I believe?

I will try and dig some more on his spouse before ordering the certificate mentioned above.

There is no marriage for a Samuel Gainey indexed on the Monmouthshire Marriages Index 1813 - 1837.

There is however the following marriage on the 1813 - 1837 Index of the Bristol Diocese:

16 May 1836 at Bedminster St. John

Samuel Gainey (bach) to Susannah Williams (spin) by Banns  (CONS)

Both of the parish.

I assume the CONS notation signifies either or both were under legal age and were married with consent of parents.

I see from the 1851 census entry that Susan was born in Gloucestershire, this could well be your couple.

Thanks for that information - that seems to be the couple I am looking for.
