stevenson, malpas- cheshire

I am hoping that someone has further information about my greatXXXX grandfather.  I have the name Ralph Stevenson, and also Ambrose Stevenson, both of Cheshire.  I have found some connection to Susannah Brooke- but appear to be in somewhat of a muddle!

I had done some work on this quite a while ago, and managed to find my X2 grandfather, Samuel Stevenson, born in Cheshire in 1829/1830.  I also found his father and grandfather,  Ambrose and Ralph Stevenson.

More recently I found a link to rootschat- re: Stevenson- Brooke- Done connection.

It appears that a Ralph Stevenson inherited quite a lot of money from his aunt, Sarah Brooke-Done, needless to say there certainly wasn't anything left by the time it came to me!!- Sarah's sister was Susannah Stevenson, nee Brooke.

I was looking at some photos today with my mother, & came accross a photo that I have seen before many, many times.  I asked my mother who it was, she said it was someone from my grandad's family (Stevenson). The guy in the photo was obviously 'well to do', & this is what has raised my curiosity!

Hi,

I can't help with anything specific, other than to say that the Dones were big landowners in the Malpas area, in particular John Done in the mid 1800s. See the Tithe Maps for Cheshire for more details. (http://maps.cheshire.gov.uk/tithemaps)

The only reason I have come across this is that one of my relatives (Daniel Ruscoe) leased a large farm from John Done - Manor Farm in Hampton, Malpas.

Hope this helps!

I have been helping a friend with her family tree which involves Ambrose and Ralph and the fact that the name Brook is still used in the family.
