Holytown - Brewsterford
« on: Sunday 29 March 09 17:25 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am researching George Stewart/Margaret Norwood family and I have George
listed on the 1841 census as living at Holytown, adress -  Brewsterford, he is aged 85 and a miner - I presume he died soon after this entry and I wondered if there were any MI's for this area or if anyone would know what cemetary he would have been put in?
thanks

Two possibilities are the Globe Cemetery Motherwell which had both private and public lairs. But there is also a cemetery at Holytown parish church.

I know there is a record of the burials for the Globe at the Motherwell Heritage Centre but I'm not aware of any record of Holytown Parish Church.

You can contact the Heritage Centre by email - museums[at][/blue]northlan.gov.uk if you can't visit in person. (Replace [at] with @)

I have seen your postings regarding the Globe Cemetery and you mentioned that the Motherwell Heritage centre has the records on CD. Do you know if the CD is available for sale?
I have several family members how are buried in the Globe but have been unable to get information on them. I have names, death dates and burial lair #s for some but not all. I also have family buried in Airbles Cemetery. I was born in Motherwell but now live in the US so don't have access to the Heritage Centre. Would you be willing to do look ups if the CD is not for sale?

Hi Lorna,

I am not sure if the Motherwell Heritage Centre do sell CD's, I have certainly not heard of them doing so...but I have only dealt with them once. I am actually in England so it is not possible for me to get up to the Heritage Centre probably until next year.

Sorry I can not be further able to help you. Have you tried looking on the Lanarkshire board to see if anybody is offering lookups there?

Regards,

Matt :)
