COMPLETED WITH THANKS 1901 census look-up
« on: Sunday 29 March 09 11:49 BST (UK) »
Would like to find this family in 1901 - have been trying to find them for sometime – and have posted requests before.
`
In 1891 they lived at 588 Old Ford Road, Stratford as follows:

James WRIGHT   b. London City   age 26  b 1864   Head   Clothing agent
Rose (nee Nelham)   b. St Lukes   age 26  b 1864
James WRIGHT   b. London Hackney   age 8    b 1883
Ellen WRIGHT   b. London B/Green   age 6    b 1885
Robert WRIGHT   b. "     Clerkenwell    age 2    b 1888
Albert WRIGHT     b. London Bow   age 3m

Albert above is “James Alfred” and is age should actually be 3 weeks (not 3 months) - bapt. found at St Stephens, Tredegar Road.  I also found the bapt. of another child called Ingram George Alfred born April 1892.

I found Ellen on the 1901 census - living with an aunt in West Ham.  Also found another child, Rosina b1893/94 living there.
Wright (West Ham, Stratford, Cripplegate)
Widenstrom (Chicago and Minnesota)
Swain (Cripplegate, St Lukes)
Wolfe (St Giles in the Fields)
Willis (Gt. Leighs; Brentford)
Bryant (Bristol, Glos)
Searle (Kent/Surrey)
Keyworth (Yorkshire)
Biggs (Harrow Weald)
Collins (Harrow Weald and Wiltshire)
Langston (Harrow Weald)

Was a street address or occupation given on the JAmes Alfred Wright baptism?

Sorry, on the 1891 census James and his family all lived at 588 Old Ford Road and his occupation was given as Clothing agent.

George Alfred was born 18.3.1891 (presumably Albert on 1891 census)
Ingram George Alfred was born 24.4.1892.

On the first bapt. James's occupation is Carman and on the second bapt. its Warehouseman.  But both bapts. list the family at 588 Old Ford Road.

Are there areas of West Ham / Stratford where the census records have not survived?

Is there any evidence from the 1911 census that the family was still together?

A possible

1901 census RG13 248 folio 37
Orthopaedic Hospital 27 Hatton Gardens Holborn
Rose Wright servant widow 36 cook domestic Bow London

Or, and I know the places of birth are not correct  (though you have given information for a West Ham connection) -  the other information would fit

1901 census RG13 194 folio 81
7 Compton Avenue Islington
Edward Sullivan 49 Head Widower Coachman commercial City
William Sullivan 24 Son Dairyman City
Eliza Sullivan 19 Daughter Highbury
Ethel Sullivan 19 Daughter Highbury
Jane Sullivan 15 Daughter Highbury
Edward Sullivan 6 Son Highbury
Rose Wright 36 Aunt Married West Ham
Robert Wright 12 Cousin West Ham
George Wright 9 Cousin West Ham

There is no evidence of a West Ham born Wright family with these names on the 1891 census. Edward Sullivan's wife was called Rose and on earlier censuses gives her birthplace as St Lukes.

Regards

Valda

Hi Valda,

Thanks for this information.  I really am puzzled by this family.  I have not been able to find them on the 1911 census either so yes I'm beginning to wonder if they were still together.  Or that maybe James or Rose had died.

The Compton Ave entry though sounds possible because James's mother's maiden name was Sullivan.  I don't know anything about the Sullivans but would expect Rose to be a cousin of Edward Sullivan rather than an aunt.  I'll have to think hard on this as I'm not sure where to look next but really appreciate your help on this.

Hi Just happened to come across your thread. Our family tree has a number of names which are the same as yours and we have been looking at the same census lookups. I have passed your info onto my husbands cousin who too is doing our family tree. Please contact if you want to exchange info.
