huttons in scotland

we have got a bit stuck with a james hutton born scotland abt 1808 (although we also have other source which suggests it might be as late as 1811). we are though stuck at this point as we can't find where in scotland he was born. we have found the followng:

1851 census - sergeant in the mounted guard with the coastguard at hastings which states his birth place as scotland.

DH/B 92/3/108 29/12/1853 -settlement examniation for his wife Theodosia Hutton of St Clement Hastings "married at Fairlight on 7 Dec 1835 to James Hutton, he died aged 46 on 11 Nov 1853, he was Scottish, aged 17 he enlisted in the 1st Regiment of Royal Dragoons and became a sergeant, he entered the coastguard service and at his death lived at Priory Station" Wife subsequently dies and children then appear in the workhouse in Rye!

ADM 175/6 (page 712 of 779) - he appears to have entered the Mounted Guard at Hastings on the 18 August 1832, joining from London. His weight is given as 11st 6lbs, and he subsequently appears to have been posted to Fairlight.

Nominations Book show James Hutton, together with about 12 other men, were all nominated in London on the same day. Written in one of the columns against all these men, in pencil, was 'Cavalry Dragoons';

ADM 175/7 (page 733 of 792) at Fairlight, where he was Discharged Dead (D.D) on the 11 November 1853, having committed suicide. Have found his burial in Register of Baptisms at Croft Congregational Chapel in Hastings, Kent from 1837 to 1854, with a Register of Burials from 1821 to 1855 - James Hutton burial – 18th Nov 1853

Can anyone help with finding a place of birth?
