The elusive Ellis'
« on: Thursday 26 March 09 11:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello all.

This time last year i was searching for a David ellis, who i had thought was born in Caernarvonshire. It would seem not, On the 1911 census it has pant y cra. So have since found him and family.

What i need help with is his grandfather. His name was Evan, born 1787-91. Place of birth either llangadfan or llanwyddyn, both are in Mongomeryshire.  Have his census returns for 41 and 51.

Any enlightenment greatly received!!

This looks like Jane   :-\

1871
RG10.  P. 5635  Fol. 64  Pg. 6

1 Lower Cross Street, Cross Guns, Llan, Mont.

Jane Ellis  Head  Wid  84   Inn Keeper  B.  Mont. Llanfechain
Ellis Ellis  Son  Un  38  Stone Mason     B.  Mont. LLanwddyn
Margaret Hughes  Grand dau  Un 19  House Keeper B.  Mont.  Llandrino

There are 3 Evan Ellis death registered in Llanfyllin between 1861 and 1871, but this one looks promising:

Evan Ellis  Aged 86  Q2 1869  Llanfyllin  Vol.  11b  Pg. 186

thanks....  have evan's census records for 41-61. Did look at that one for Jane, but am not entirely convinced. Glad you also think the death record for 1869 seems most likely.

I must admit that I also thought becoming an Inn Keeper at that age a tad unlikely,  but I can't see another Jane on the 1871, and nor can I see another matching in 1861 other than Jane and Ellis   :-\

There are several possible deaths for Jane between 1861 and 1871  -  one aged 83 Q2. 1868 and one aged 85 Q4. 1871  :-\

Was there a son Ellis ?  or a daughter married to a Hughes ?
