Where is Ealing and Brentford cemetery
« on: Wednesday 25 March 09 22:19 GMT (UK) »
I want to find the grave of an aunt who was buried in here in 1940, but it no longer seems to exist. Has it been amalgamated with another cemetery, or simple re-named?
Thanks in advance RootsChatters.
Hazel

Hi Hazel,

I wonder if it is the South Ealing Cemetery, South Ealing Rd, Ealing, London, W5 4QP.  It was opened in 1861 and you can search the registers (£38.50)

Info from 2005 so price might have increased.

Ealing and Old Brentford Cemetery, South Ealing Road, W5

I've been trying to locate it. I think the church is St Mary's, and if you're looking for it on google maps, I think it's the road which starts at Ealing Green then turns into St Mary's Road, then changes into South Ealing Road. You can see the church and an area out the back which might be the churchyard (but I think it looks more like allotments  :-\)

PS. Welcome to rootschat Hazel!  :)

OR ... I may be completely wrong about that location ... I'm sure those are allotments ... :-\

Thanks everyone  - I'm amazed at the speed of those replies! You could be correct about the South Ealing Cemetary - I will try and avoid looking in allotments when I go in search this weekend.

South Ealing Cemetery is off the Great West Road, Brentford, going towards South Ealing. You need South Ealing Road, towards Popes Lane. There is an 'old' and 'new' part of the cemetery.
My family are buried in both parts.
If I can be of more help please let me know.

I think I can see it on google maps (but the image is very blurred). It is bordered by Popes Lane, Occupation Lane, and Lionel Road (which backs onto Gunnersbury Park) ....

.... so it's not the Allotment's behind St Mary's Church?  ;D

Thanks again folks. I have a plot number, so assuming I am in the correct cemetery, I will not have to wander around for too long - the weather forecast is not exactly favourable for lengthy strolls in the open air.

The easiest directions are:

Nearest underground station, Piccadilly Line, South Ealing, turn right towards Popes Lane, cross roads, you will see the cemetery on the left hand side.
Whichever way you approach the cemetery, go through the main entrance in South Ealing Road, under the arch way where the chapels are, continue straight down the pathway until you come to a small lane, go straight across and into the new part of the cemetery. Seeing your relative was buried 1940 she will be there.
Hope this is of help.
