Richard Burgess - Framsden - 1787/1852
« on: Thursday 17 February 05 15:52 GMT (UK) »

Any information, please, regarding Richard (shopkeeper 1831 and pea dealer in 1841) and Mary BURGESS.
Richard was born in Norfolk (Taverham) in 1787 but was living in Framsden in 1831/41/51.

He had two children - Marcella and John Thomas - and I think died in 1852.
Thanks

I have found a burial for a Richard BURGESS aged 78 at Framsden St Mary on 18th September 1865, so I wonder if your Richard actuallly lived longer than you think.  With this in mind, I checked Framsden in 1861, and he is there!

RG9/1156 Folio 8a
Framsden, Suffolk

BURGESS

Richard, Head, Mar, 74, Tea Dealer, b Taversham, Norfolk
Mary, Wife, 74, School Mistress, b Barking, Suffolk

Thanks Rick - brilliant
That answers a couple of questions I had - firstly I couldn't understand Richard being a "pea dealer" - sounded odd, but "tea dealer" makes sense cos his son John was a commercial traveler in tea!  Also the information fits in perfectly as I found Mary as a widow of 84 in the 1871 Census living with her daughter Marcella and family.
Thanks again
Wendy
