Looks like by 1891 Robert had left, but, for where? How does he get from humble beginnings in West Linton, to an esteemed position in the Bank of India? Thomas, only we presume, 19, during this Census, has already left? Maybe for England, prior to St Helena. I know he married a Edith Mary Short from England, no date, or place, for that.
And, by 1891, Richard was a 16 year old bank clerk.
Do you happen to know where Kirkurd, the place of John Aitken's birth in 1827 is?
About 30 years ago, my mother, (Edith Constance Aitken) on a visit from South Africa, to Scotland, tried to find John Aitken's grave in West Linton, unsuccessfully!
And, we knew of the death of one of the children, now you've helpfully told me, its, I think, John, Age 9, in the 1871 Census.
