1861 Wilts Census - Thomas WELSH
« on: Monday 23 March 09 15:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi there

Any sign of Thomas Welsh (or Welch) on the 1861 Wilts census?

Born in Shirenewton, Monmouthshire in 1820, he was a grocer and post master living with wife Naomi in Ford, North Wraxall in the 1851 census.

Naomi is still there in 1861 (listed as 'married') but no sign of Thomas?

In the 1855 Post Office Directory he is there, but by the 1859 Directory only 'Mrs Thomas Welsh' is shown as grocer. Another chap is the post master.

Any ideas?

Hi

have you checked for a death

It was not unknown for a recent widow to still be shown as married on the census after her husbands death

I've wondered if that was the case, but nothing on BMD and nothing on familysearch.  ???

I don't know if you can find anything?
