Nolan/Murphy Kildare
« on: Monday 23 March 09 14:41 GMT (UK) »
I am researching Michael Nolan born 1848, I have found some references to him being born 1843, His father was James.
Also Ellen Murphy born 1847 in Hughstown Kildare her father was Daniel a farmer, she married Michael.
I believe in the 1851 census 5 years was deducted from a persons age, is this so, and why you find different birth years.
Nolan, Mercer, O'Neill, Boyd, Murphy

The Ellen Murphy you probably seek was born in 1844 in Hughstown dau of Daniel Murphy and Catherine Ryan.
She had sisters:
Mary who married Terence Lyons
Elizabeth who married Maurice Fitzharris
Anne who married Stephen Murphy
Etc

Hi,
First of all sorry I have not replied befor now, branched out to other family members because I got stuck.
Thanks for the info, it certainly looks promising for Ellen, the 1911 census gives her age as 66 born Hughstown. I have a wedding certificate for her to Michael Nolan 1874 in Liverpool. Her father was Daniel.
Do not have any info about her mother or sisters. I have tried to trace them from what you have given but no luck.
May I ask where you got the information from?

Regards,
Jim

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, problem is i'm not too sure.
Most Census and other records only state a county or even 'Ireland'.
Michael Nolan my great grandfather was born 1843, he was, I think, christened in Allen and Milltown RC Church.

He marrried Ellen Murphy who I know was born in Hughstown, Kildare
in 1847, her father was Daniel.

Jim
