Thanks Heather. It sounds like it's worth the money - except knowing my luck I won't be offered anything!

Oh ye of little faith lesleyhannah ;D ;D  Go for it.  I didn't even ask for anything.   If they don't give it to you automatically- call them up and act shocked and dismayed :o :o  Tell them about your fellow rootschatters experiences ;D

Is anyone else finding the records/results confusing?  There are Poor Law baptisms and then there appear to be Workhouse baptisms etc.  but still no regular baptisms I think.    The search results are still all over the place.  It doesn't help that I know very little about London area parishes but I am learning ;)

There is a map on the site explaining all the parishes and where they are. It is a bit disappointing that they have transcribed the poor law/workhouse registers first and no regular parishes which I guess is what we are all waiting for but hopefully the first ones will appear soon - all good things and all that.
Bloomfield, Knights, Whitmore, Warner (Suffolk)
Hamlin (London, Yorkshire, Scotland, Suffolk)
Mattocks, Newick, Nutter, (Kent)
Mattocks (Staffs)

No, I'm not confused, but then I read the information supplied....

"This database contains birth and baptismal records from London, England for 1834-1906. Currently all of the records come from Board of Guardian Poor Law records."

BTW. I think the people of Huntingdon might argue with the statement that Oliver Cromwell is a famous Londoner  ::)

Carole

Yes, very surprised! Since the house where he was born and the school he attended are both in Huntingdon!!

Me neither, I'm still a bit confused as to how the search works to be honest!

Does anyone know if baptisms in the workhouse were for all christian denominations? If a mother was catholic would the child be baptised in the workhouse or were the only baptisms C of E?
