new to the site here

Hello!  I am not sure how I found this site, but I am looking for some of my family that is from England, specifically the Yorkshire area.  I am not real familiar with England and where are the places are, so please bear with me if I seem a little slow or just plain dumb!!  I have searched back through the mid 1500's and found that my family is from England.  Maybe that explains why I drink a lot of tea!!  Anyway, I am just looking for anyone with information and maybe some pictures of the area today.  Any and all help is appreciated.  I am about 8 hours behind your time so I may be a little slow to respond at times.  Thank you for any and all of the help you can provide!!

Everyone on here is on different time zones, so we all respond at different times.  No one on here will think you are slow or just plain dumb, and we were all new once. so we know what it is like to be a newcomer.

a) details of what information (with dates and from what sources) you already have

b) where you ancestors were and when

Yes, it is very addictive, and the people on this site are all incredibly helpful - and good fun as well (see Totally Off Topic if you want a laugh!)

I've had a huge amount of help when I've got stuck in my search.  I, too, have family from Yorkshire - specifically from the Middlesbrough and Hartlepool/Stockton areas, which probably won't mean much to you.  But if you stick with it, I'm sure you'll find out all sorts of interesting stuff about your family's past.

Welcome to rootschat

Two sites that I have found really helpful are genuki where you can find information about the towns and parishes of Yorkshire.  http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/  There are links to maps of the various areas which will help you find very small settlements etc.

The other site for pictures today is geograph uk. http://www.geograph.org.uk/ You can input the name of place in the search box and often find many pictures of the area where your family lived.

I have to say I am well impressed that you have traced your family to the mid 1500's .. I'm sure a lot of people on here can benefit from your expertise also .. !

We don't all drink tea in England, says me who is on her second cup of coffee in Yorkshire .. ! 

Without risk of repeating everyones good advice, there are a lot of friendly people with local knowledge so if you do need anything don't hesitate to ask .. !

not all that crazy about chocolate unless it is a candy bar with peanuts, peanut butter or something like that mixed with it.  But, a little cream and sugar in the coffe would be nice!!!  Is a biscuit like a cookie??
