Looking for some Inmon/Inman's
« on: Saturday 21 March 09 06:53 GMT (UK) »
Hello.  I hope that I am in the right place.  I have been doing some research on my family tree.  I live in the states.  Most of my family from around 1700 to the present is from the US.  While searching, I found that I have an ancestor that came from Pately Bridge, Yorkshire sometime between 1653 and 1701.  I know that is quite a ways back, but if anyone has any information or anything that is useful, I really appreciate the help.  I also have some family a little farther back (late 1500's) that are from these areas:  Hartshead, Fellbeck, Netherdale, Bouthwaite, N Posture House.  If any of these areas look familiar to any of you, please let me know.  Also, I would like to know what kind of are Yorkshire is and where it is located exactly.  Since I am not from England, I am not familiar with any of the areas of the country.  Any and all help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much!!!

Pately Bridge is in the Yorkshire Dales, which is a beautiful area (and this is from a Southerner!)

Here is a good link to start from:-

You must have heard of 'All Creatures Great & Small'? These books were set in this lovely area, although James Herriot actually lived in Thirsk a way to the east.

Good researching!

Hi
Welcome to RootsChat

Have you tried Hugh Wallis's site ?
Scroll down the link page for Pately Bridge

Yorkshire could be regarded as the Texas of England - bigger and better than anywhere else, but I am sure that these thoughts are very controversial amongst non-Yorkshiremen. We are situated towards the North of England, about the centre of the British isles and a ridge of hills, the Pennine Chain, devides us from our arch rivals in the next county of Lancashire. The county of Yorkshire is divided into 3 Ridings or thirds and Pately Bridge is in the North Riding. As John says 'A beautiful area'

thank you all for the information.  I am about 2-3 hours from the state line of Texas.  It is a very pretty state.  Like where I live in Arkansas, you go from very flat lands with forests to hills and mountains.  But, nin Texas, they also have lots of desert in the western part.  I love the desert.  It has a beauty all it's own.

WOW!!  I am going to save thatand read it.  I am going to see if the people match the ones I have found so far on my family tree.  You guys are great!!!!!  Just curious, is Inmon/Inman a common name in England??  It is not a very common name here.  We do have a few here in Arkansas that I am not familiar with, but for the most part it is not a common name.  I spell mine with an "o" as in Inmon.  Thanks again!!

Hi Melanie

This site has a very good map of Yorkshire to freely download.

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/Misc/Maps/YKSmap.html

I have Inman's in my direct line from Methley in the West Riding that may have come from the Pateley Bridge area as I have other family from this area and Ripon nearby, I have a CD of the Ripon Records if these are of any help.
