Hi im trying to find out about William Allen born 1863 in March Cambridgeshire. He became an inspector of Northamptonshire police but i cant find any info on this . Has anyone any ideas? He married a Mary A and they had a daughter Rebecca in 1883

baz, yes, welcome to rootschat. Are you trying to trace him backwards to his parents or follow his daughter and maybe other children?

 Have you looked at freebmd to see when he died?exactly when he married?
You could get his marriage cert and it would tell you about his parents etc.

Maybe if you googled there is a police data site?  just a guess but wortyh exploring.

There is a book called "Policing Northamptonshire 1836 - 1986" by Richard Cowley - Brewin Books.
