London Inquests

Is it possible to obtain details of coroner's inquests in London? I have a death certificate for George William Lakeman who died at The Albion, 211 High Street, Shadwell on 27th April 1912. The death certificate was issued after an inquest on the 30 April 1912.

I would be interested to know if it is possible to obtain details of coroner's inquests. The name of the coroner was Wynne E Baxter - the Coroner for the County of London.

Any advice would be welcome.

I would imagine for the Shadwell area if it exists it will be at the London Metropolitan Archives.  I know they do have some from after that date because they had a look for me to see if they did have one for my grandfather in 1944 but few were actually held during the war so there is no record of that.  If the one you are after is 1912 I would have thought they would have it.

I looked for a Coroners report a few years ago at the LMA but they only kept 10% so you would be lucky to find anything there, but worth a try.
Have you tried the Newspaper Library in Colindale? I found a full report of my Grandfathers death in a local London newspaper.

Interesting about the 10% only remaining, wasn't told that a few years ago when I asked.  Had just kind of accepted that it was missing because it was wartime (1944). 

Have been lucky previously, got one from the Guildhall Library from 1833!
