Hi,

Do you have a road name? (or Marys Year of Birth? theres over 100 Mary Woods' in Oldham in 1901)

Oldham was split into quite a few Parishes - Oldham Below town - Oldham Above town, St Marys, Etc - then there were the individual Areas such as Chadderton, Shaw, Royton etc (where I live)

Posting looks fine to me by the way, just need a little more info :)

Ok I think I found it from the details you gave for Mary.

Looking at the area its in Failsworth, which was right on the Oldham / Manchester Border
(Google "Grimshaw Street Oldham" and theres a map)
Looking at the map and the area there is a large mill on the other side of Oldham Road thats still standing, I cant think of its name, but I will find out - My brother lives nearby - I suspect that was a cotton mill but when I find the name I will check.Given your Mary was a cardhand, I think that would be a cotton Mill occupation.

If you look at the map you can see the canal, by that there is Firs Ave and Firs St, next to that is an un-named cul-de-sac - the mill is there.

Daveey................ If you figure that one out please tell me!

I have a great grandma & her sister that have put "Ireand" on every document they filled in in England, but no clues as to WHERE in Ireland to help!

Where are you driving up from?
If you need directions just yell, I live locally.

Hi

I have an old map of Oldham which shows Grimshaw St, Oldham. It was more or less facing the One in Three public house.
The One in Three is facing the Civic Centre near to where the newest part of the bus station is now on West St. (hope that makes sense)

Ohhh that makes more sense Sal!
I was wondering why it didnt say Failsworth on the cencus info.
Where the Civic centre is is more where I was expecting it to be - I have to say Failsworth seemed too far out but it was the only Grimshaw street that came up on any of my maps, even the old ones.

Daveey - Ignore my post, I think Sals area is a far more logical one - And 'Below town' would describe the area there better.
