Looking for Peter May
« on: Monday 16 March 09 19:59 GMT (UK) »
Looking for birth of Peter May.  Born 1858-1861 (depending on age taken from 1891 and 1901 censuses) and married in 1887 in Tynemouth.  His place of birth given in these censuses was “Liverpool”.  However, can’t find him anywhere in 1861, 1871 or 1881, although there is a possible Peter May in the 1881 in a ship off the coast of Cornwall and giving his place of birth as “Westport, Ireland”.  Any suggestions gratefully received. :)

Do you have his marriage certificate - it should have his father's name and occupation on it, which could be useful in finding him in 1861/71

In case you haven't, the ref is:

Sep 1887, Tynemouth, 10b/321

HI m1chael

Something to bear in mind when searching for the name Peter is that it has a common name variant of Patrick. There are a couple of Patrick May's showing in the 1861 census which could be Peter.

For example, in 1861 there is a Patrick May, b. 1858 in Liverpool, son of Patrick and Elizabeth living in Toxteth Park, Lancashire, (RG9; Piece: 2697; Folio: 23; Page: 49)

In 1871, not sure if the same Patrick (Peter?), there is a Patrick May, b. 1860 in Liverpool, living at a Boys Refuge in Liverpool, (RG10; Piece: 3792; Folio: 40; Page: 10)

Hopefully the marriage cert, as confirmed by Jen, will let you trace him back  :)
