Samuel and/or William PLAYER - 1790's
« on: Monday 16 March 09 13:52 GMT (UK) »
This first Player in Scotland seems to be a Samuel Player that came from England and ended up in Fife.  There are records of a William Player arriving to the area around the same time, but we're not sure if they are actually related.  William died in Flanders and Samuel went on to have a family - it seems all Players in Scotland are descendants of Samuel.

We've searched everywhere for Samuel's place of birth, to no avail.

Are there any Player family trees with a Samuel and/or William around this period.  They enlisted  around 1795 so, at a guess, they could've been born between 1770 - 1775-ish.

There are many Player's from Comb St Nicholas in Somerset & we have traced them back to a John Player born in 1747 - have fairly complete lineage since then but no Samuel until one born 1856 - Chris Player

Hi Dave

I am also descended from Samuel Player from Cupar who died in 1848 and owned the Blue Bell inn. I have recently been working on the Player family tree from Samuel through to my grandmother Mary Player born in Leuchars in 1910.

Thank you for posting the information about Samuel and the Fife Fencibles. Have you manged to find anything else about him since your last postings. I live in Fife and am happy to help with any research that you are doing and will pass on any info that I find.

regards
Martin
