Freshford Lane, England
« on: Sunday 15 March 09 18:06 GMT (UK) »
Hello:

I hope I'm posting my question in the correct place.

I just received my GG-Grandfather Benjamin Bowering marriage certificate which indicates that he lived at 5 Freshford Lane, Bristol when he got married.  I wonder if anyone would know if Freshford Lane is the same as Freshford Village or am I completely wrong.  I’m afraid I don’t know a lot about England at this point so I thought who better to ask than someone who lives there.  Any information would be appreciated.

Freshford village could never be described as Bristol.

Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

If his address was Freshfold LAne Bristol, and Freshfold village is miles from Bristol, then I would say it means FF Lane was Not in FF village!

I actually misread the marriage certificate I just read it again it doesn’t actually say that Freshford Lane is in Bristol.  What it says is that they lived at Freshford Land when they got married where I got the Bristol from is they got married at the Parish of St. Mary, Redcliffe the county of Bristol.  My mistake so what I’ll do is look and see if there is indeed a Freshford Lane in either place and take if from there.  Its interesting I found a Church using the above name and it is very impressive Church.  Thanks for the info.

What dates are we talking? Can we find the family at FF in a census?

(NB - Bristol is not a county!)

I can find him in the 1871 Census with Charlotte the 2nd wife but can't find him with his first wife and children.  I thought I would be able to find him in the 1861 census but no such luck.  I guess at some point they will come out of hiding.

Thanks for your help.

What info have you got on him (place/yr of birth, name of wife and children etc) and I will have a look on 1861 next week.
Cant do it now as Ancestry seemed to have suddenly zapped me! Pretty sure I renewed subscription! I have emailed them to see what is going on!

Hi,
According to the 1871 street index I have,Freshford Lane was off Recliffe St.Redcliffe so thats why the marriage was at St Mary Redcliffe Church maybe??
