Hi Denise,
Do you know whereabouts in Leeds he was born?
Theres an extracted entry for Sandal Magna in IGI,
Joseph Hall Christened 15th Aug 1837
Parents John Hall and Mary Anne.

Im not sure if Sandal Magna would be classed as Leeds though as its more Wakefield   ???

Carr - Barnsley, South yorkshire             Oates  - Sheffield
Burgoyne / Peat - Kilburn, Derbyshire    Burgoyne - Barnsley

Thanks for replies
It  could well be the right Joseph as his father was John, although Joseph did keep putting born Leeds on censuses
I will try the Wakefield one tho
