My research seems to indicate that my BRIGMAN/BRIGGMAN ancestors who lived in Mayfield and Rotherfield in the 1500s and 1600s seemed to have died out and none are currently left. Of course, I've looked at the early census records in the 1800s and there are 4 listings in 1841, but I can not find a single record on them in the 1700s in the Mayfield area. There are a few Brigmans on parish registers in the early 1700s in Alfriston, but that is all.
My question is this: is there anyone local to the area that is reading this and knows of a BRIGMAN family still in Sussex (particularly East Sussex)? I would dearly love to make contact with one and pass on some interesting facts about the family and the vast extent to which the name has spread throughout the US from just a single immigrant. Did some go to Australia? Where are my people?
Thanks, Terri
