Hello everyone,

You've all been a great help to me and have given me some great starting points.  I'll get started with the cross referencing.

Thank you all.

Hello again Sue R,

I doubt you'll be able to do too much (if any) "cross-referencing".  If Gma Annie was very young when she had a child in 1920, she might well have been born after the 1901 census so that would leave only the 1911 census in which to find her ...  And then, how would you know she was the right Annie?  Unless she was living at the address given on your mother's bc.

There are only three possible births of an Annie ARNOLD in Tamworth (though we don't even know whether that is where your grandmother was born) on FreeBMD.  An Annie in 1897, and an Annie Irene and an Annie Elizabeth in 1904.  There are no matching deaths on FreeBMD up to 1920.

Just for information, the 1897 Annie seems to be the Annie aged 3, born Glascote (part of Tamworth - mistranscribed as Glascoed on Ancestry), daughter of Harold and Sarah ARNOLD, living in Aston.
Reference is: RG13/ 2865/ 54/ 17

Hello JAP

Thanks for the input.  Those are my stumbling blocks and I keep going round and round, I think I'll put Annie on hold again and work on another branch.  Maybe I'll stumble onto something somewhere that lights up.

Thank you again.

This is new information that I have come across - Annie Elizabeth Arnold is my Mum's birth mother.  I have a copy of the original birth certificate.  My mother was born at Wigginton, Staffordshire, England.  Her birth mother, Annie Elizabeth Arnold was a General Domestic of Coton Old Hall Kingsbury, the informant was Geo. J. Collison, Occupier 100 Wigginton Rd. Wigginton.  Mum was told that her mother worked as a maid at a manor house & died giving birth to Mum.  I have yet to find a death registration for around that time.  I think Mum was told a story & that her birth mother lived.  Where do I go from here?

One of the possible births found was for an Annie Elizabeth - so that remains a possible, and the others can be ruled out (though as was said at the time it is not known if Annie was born in Tamworth reg district or not.

You could look for that Annie E (thr one born 1904) in 1911 census to see what that says, though she will be too young to have gone into service by then, so unlikely to be able to confirm it is or isnt yours.

Thanks Lizdb.  I'm sorry to take so long to answer but work & real life got in the way.  I have found family living in the area & they are going to ask around the family to see what anyone can remember.

I have been in touch with my mother's family in England & have actually met 2 of my cousins.  Unfortunately, Mum never knew any of this as her dementia was too bad for her to understand.
