« on: Friday 13 March 09 16:46 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for info on Thomas MacDermott born 1855 in St Georges in the East. He married Johannah Regan in 1875. They had at least 10 children:
Mary   Ann   MacDermott   Dec   1877   Whitechapel
Thomas      MacDermott   Dec   1879   Whitechapel
Johanna      MacDermott   Dec   1881   Whitechapel
John      MacDermott   Dec    1883   Whitechapel
Joseph      MacDermott   Dec   1885   Whitechapel
Ellen      MacDermott   Sept   1887   St George In The East
Henry      MacDermott   Sept   1889   St George In The East
Daniel      MacDermott   Jan   1893   St George In The East
Charles   G   MacDermott   Jan   1895   Whitechapel
Ernest      MacDermott   Jun   1897   Whitechapel
Frederick      MacDermott   Sept   1898   Whitechapel

Are these people any connection to your MacDermott *stepney and Londonderry) ?

Thanks

My McDermott Great Grandparents were living in Poplar in the 1800's, and Poplar was slap up against Limehouse, and by the late 1800's they had moved from Poplar to Canning Town  within the County Borough of the then West Ham.

It appears that  when the new Royal Group of docks were built in the Custom House- Wolwich area in the Borough of  the then West Ham, now the Borough of Newham large numbers of both Limehouse and Poplar residents made the move to many areas in West Ham to find work in the new docks and in the many many new factories that were also built close to the new docks in the Silvertown area.

My McDermott's originated in Southern Ireland.
