RICHARDS Mary Emma

In our family bible it says that Mary Emma Richards was born 16 November 1869 - Breage and was christened 1884. On her marriage certificate her father is William Richards miner. I have searched the Cornwall database and births and I can't find her. Can anyone help ?

Not sure if it's just the birth entry you are looking for or whether you need information on her parents.

I have found family on 1861/1871/1881 Census her parents being William Richards and wife Ellen/Eleanor.   Eldest child William baptised 31/1/1861 Sithney confirming names of couple on census.   Eleanor a widow by 1871 (although a dau. Edith bc.1874 ??).   A possible marriage at Helston Reg.Disctrict Sept.1858 - William Richards and an Ellen Meagor being 2 of the 4 individuals shown.

Thanks very much for the info. Having made a mistake over her parents once (there are hundreds of Richards in that part of Cornwall) I really want to track down the birth certificate so I'm sure Ive got the right one. Yes please for the marriage info.

First, have checked original indexes and there is no Mary Emma Richards (or even plain Mary or Emma Mary) in the Dec.qtr. 1869 or March qtr. 1870 at Helston so either her birth wasn't registered (maybe born around time father died and it got overlooked??) or there was an error and Helston District didn't submit it to the General Record Office.   You could contact the local office giving them Mary Emma's birthdate and ask them to check their records to see if a mistake was made but if they haven't got a record of it then there is no way you will be able to get a copy of her birth certificate as the GRO have no note of it.   I do not have any other details regarding the possible marriage other than that already mentioned.

(in 1891 Mary E. is working as a servant in Helston, Eleanor apparently married the 1881 Boarder William Wills - Jun. qtr. 1882 Helston - and although shown as married in 1891 no sign of William Wills - Eleanor's occupation is 'Maintained by sons' and with her are Grace Richards  Step-dau. 23   'Husband Abroad' - think this should maybe be dau. in law) and Edith Richards 17   Dau. - Ref. is RG12 - 1842 - 32 - 7)

Elllen/Eleanor somewhat inconsistent with her age!!

Baby William in 1861 was, as mentioned before, bp.31/1/1861 Sithney, son of William and Eleanora.

 Hi Annette
I looked through all the registered births in Dec qtr 1869  last night and I found a Mary Ellen Richards Helston Vol 56 page 277. I'm going to send for the cert. and see if its her. Perhaps she preferred Emma to Ellen !!
