Ancestry has released Manhattan, New York, New York, U.S., Voter Registers, 1915-1956, but anyone without a sub for US records but has a sub for UK records will need to subscribe to view them.

Reclaim the Records recently won a case for the New York State death index to be released to cover through 2017.  This will only be records outside of New York City, but they will be asking for New York City too.  Currently, the New York state death index is only available from 1880 through 1972.  This new index also may include more data fields than have ever been released before.

This index was just released at https://newyorkdeathindex.com/

From Reclaim the Records at https://mailchi.mp/reclaimtherecords/for-giving-tuesday-you-get-a-gift-the-new-york-state-death-index-1880-2017:

This is a brand new mini-website we just launched, with more than ten and a half million records, indexing the basic genealogical data from New York State death records from 1880-2017! This is the first time that any New York State death data from 1973-2017 has been available anywhere, on any website or from any source. It's also the first time that the 1957-1971 records for New York finally include the actual places of death, not just the 'place of residence' field. (This is super-important info if you want to try ordering a death record from a town clerk, instead of waiting in a five-year backlog with the state DOH in Albany.)
