Ritchie Family Belfast
« on: Wednesday 11 March 09 01:34 GMT (UK) »
Can't find my GGGrandmothers Eliza Ritchie (formerly Gray or Kissick) death in Ireland or Scotland.  She was still alive in 1887 at 56 New Dock St Ireland and probably up to 1895 in Nelson Street Belfast.  My GG Grandfather died in 1882 at 56 New Dock St, Belfast.  My grandfather who was born in Scotland was living with Eliza, his grandmother untill 1887 (age 10) when he came to Australia to join his parents, who had been living in Hamilton Scotland, and younger siblings.  It appears she moved to Nelson Street after that date and is still in directory at Nelson St up to 1895.  Although it's possible that there were two Eliza Ritchies in the area at that time I am assuming it to be the same one at both addresses.  I have not been able to find a death for her in Ireland and thought that maybe she went back to Scotland to live with relatives but have not been able to find a death that matches there either.  Hope someone can help :-[

There are lots of Eliza or Elizabeth Ritchies died in Belfast registration district in death index (1889, 1896, 1912...) and many of the ages are around the same period so without seeing the actual certificates it's impossible to know if any are the correct person.

Thanks for the response.  I have ruled out Eliza Ritchie who died in Theodore St 9th February (1912?) from burials in Parish Carnmoney Church Archives, and the one who died at 16 Leeson St on 7th February 1912.  Would be interested to know of the others.

PS. to my previous response to your reply.  I have not ruled out one Elizabeth Ritchie death 23 Feb 1896 informant Hugh Ritchie, grandson or Eliza Ritchie death 31 March 1889 at Dancairn Gardens, informant Agnes Ritchie, granddaughter.  I have a question marked these because I can't find a connection for either informant.

You can search for Eliza/Elizabeth Ritchie on the link I gave earlier for civil registration index.
