Walter Thomas HURREN & Minnie LYNAM
« on: Monday 09 March 09 10:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I've been trying to find the marriage between Walter Thomas HURREN and Minnie LYNAM so far without success.  It probably took place between 1913 and 1917.  I know virtually nothing of Walter except his name and the fact that he and Minnie were living at Hanley, Staffordshire in 1917.  Minnie was born in Douglas Isle of Man in 1892 the daughter of Samuel LYNAM and his wife Hannah (nee CLARKE) [my great grandfather's sister].

I've searched the GRO Marriage Indexes and the "Lawson" marriage indexes on the I.O.M. F.H.S. website and found not a sniff of a clue. Does anyone have any ideas where else I could search?

It seems the Lawson indexes only go up to about 1911 for some districts, so they might not be covered there.

You could contact the General Registry to see if they did marry in Douglas:

There was a Walter Thomas Hurren who was born Sep 1884 quarter (freebmd) in Stoke T. district (would cover Hanley). They probably met during the war, then returned to Walter's hometown (in 1901 there is a 16 year old Walter in Hanley, his father also Walter was a toy dealer, in case that rings any family bells).

Thank you for your comments and suggestions Jorose.

I'm afraid there are no family bells to ring for the Hurren family. I only know Walter Hurren's name because it appears on a grant of probate together with Minnie's name.  I know that the IOM indexes Bruce Lawson so kindly compiled were work-in-progress with only a slim chance that they cover the period I need for this marriage.

When I looked at the Staffordshire BMD website I found three marriages in the Stoke-on-Trent/Burton-on-Trent area that may be Walter's relatives.

James W W Hurren & Sarah Farmer in 1883; William A. Hurren & Ellen Till in 1915 and Arthur A Hurren & Mary Smith in 1917 but without knowing who Walter's father is I cannot work out whether or not these marriages might be relevant. I feel as if I'm going round in circles ???

Many thanks for the link CB53 I didn't know about that Manx web site as I haven't been actively looking at my mother's side of my family for quite a while now.

Hello reecy01,

I should have posted yesterday to let you know that I had sent you a personal message about my relationship to Minnie Lynam. To read your PMs click on "MY MESSAGES" at the top of the forum page.

Minnie's mother Hannah, and my great grandfather John were brother and sister so that means you and I are 3rd cousins.
